Learn more about CROs

Home to the world’s largest concentration of CROs, the Triangle is known as the birthplace of Contract Research Organizations (CROs), with the formation of IQVIA (formerly Quintiles) in 1982. Today, seven of the top 10 global CROs operate in the Research Triangle Region. CROs help conduct clinical trials and provide research support services to biotech, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device companies.

North Carolina’s rich history in agriculture paired with the Triangle’’s technical resources and innovative ecosystem creates a unique environment for the growing AgTech industry. Our diversified agriculture combined with our strong talent pool make our region an AgTech powerhouse with companies like BASF, Bayer Environmental Science, and Syngenta operating major research centers here.

The Plant Science Initiative at NC State University is the global home for plant science innovation. The highly specialized program brings together the brightest minds in academia, government and industry to drive research and innovation that increases crop yields, creates new varieties, extends growing seasons, enhances agricultural and environmental sustainability, and produces new and improved technology.
