It’s that time of year again! The leaves are changing, the days are getting cooler and the NC State Fair is headed our way! Time to enjoy candy apples and Ferris wheels while snapping candid photos with those we love the most.  I’m sure you all know the Triangle is an amazing place to work; but it’s also a hub of North Carolina culture and southern hospitality that take center stage at the State Fair. If you’ve never experienced the NC State Fair, you have certainly been missing out; but your perfect opportunity is right around the corner! Beginning October 11th you can enjoy all the State Fair has to offer.

I grew up in this amazing state; and as far back as I can remember, the sites, sounds and smells of the NC State Fair held me captive. I savored every detail, from playing games and winning prizes to heading home with bag of cotton candy larger than my head. The Fair was always a larger than life, awe-inspiring experience, and even as an adult I still feel that childhood excitement swell up inside me this time of the year.

The NC State Fair is nothing short of a family affair with events catered to guests of all ages. Attend concerts featuring local and national artists at the Dorton Arena or take the little ones to Kiddie Land Fun Park. There are numerous free performances, from the one-man band to racing pigs, and you can end your evening with their beautiful fireworks display. The Fair features a ton of amazing food vendors and even offers a weekday lunch pass. If you want to have fun while giving back, visit the fair on October 8th, hunger relief day. Bring in four canned goods and your Fair admission is free! No matter what your angle is, the NC State Fair is sure to have something for you.

For the first-time fair goers, here are a few tips to make the most of your experience: Wear comfortable shoes, don’t eat before you go, have a camera handy, park and ride if possible, have cash on hand, purchase tickets in advance to save money and make sure you have plenty of time to spend when you go. After all, you work hard so why not take a break and play hard? No matter how hectic your schedule, carve out a few hours and head down to the fair grounds. You’ll be glad you did! So don’t wait! Round up your family and friends and get ready to discover yet another amazing thing about Smartopia. For more information on tickets, strollers, parking, etc. visit See you there!
