Contract Research Organizations, also referred to as Clinical Research Organizations, or simply CROs, help biotech, pharmaceutical and AMT companies validate their products, and assist them through the rigorous clinical trials process. These companies are a vital component to any well-rounded life science cluster. And it just so happens that the Triangle has the nation’s largest concentration of CROs including the corporate headquarters of industry giants Quintiles, INC Research, and PRA International.
While not typically characterized as a CRO, The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences is a great regional asset that speaks to the collaborative nature of the region. The Hamner, located in Research Triangle Park, is an independent non-profit organization that performs research to improve chemical and drug safety, and speed the development of new medicines. It has recently announced a new partnership with Alexandria Real Estate Equities that will bring together universities, industry, and leading international institutions to create new hub for life sciences innovation.
