The Research Triangle Region is home to one of the world’s leading cleantech clusters. Dozens of companies employing thousands of people are actively creating new technologies that support more sustainable growth and a cleaner, greener environment. Area universities are also involved in a number of ways. Not only are they training students on these new technologies, but they are actively working with the industry to bring new ideas to market. And the public sector is working with both industry and academia to support the continued growth through implementation and business-friendly policies and practices.
The cleantech industry is both broad and far-reaching. Here in the Triangle, we are primarily focused on the further development of smart grid, advanced transportation, renewable energy and energy efficiency. In 2011, the Research Triangle Region was invited to become one of the first 10 members of the exclusive the International Cleantech Network.
